The "Math-Is-Me-tician" program is designed to provide year-round academic support in mathematics as well as mentoring for Black students at Long Beach's educational institutions (LBUSD, LBCC, and CSULB) and beyond.
Math-Is- Me, collaborated with the Math collaborative team to provide tutoring and mentoring to all program participants, as well as fun projects that connect mathematics to our cultural heritage and real-world challenges confronting the Black community (June Summer Camp)
Day 1 of the 55 BOSS hopefuls attending the CSULB BOSS Programs camp, and Day 5 total when taking into account Sport Analytics from USC last week. The Hesabu Circle, a mathematical method that is culturally relevant, a coding boot camp, and an entrepreneurship boot camp were all introduced to the students. Dr. Brown, who was our day's guest lecturer, gave the students lessons on the origins of Egyptian numerals and how to use them to solve simple arithmetic problems.
Day 2: Jump Start then coding boot camp then 3D printing then visit by Rams/NFL photographer, Jeff Lewis who dropped knowledge and inspired. All before lunch! After Lunch Ms Charle' Moore educated the students on Entrepreneurship.
